Just For Kids

Girl Scout Saturdays, 2nd Saturday of each month
Senior Girl Scout Museum docents give tours and lead enrichment activities with younger Girl Scouts. The basic tour includes a patch and a coloring book and can combined with another activity such as an educational trunk or a Try-It. Also, the Museum can help Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts earn complete or partial Try-its and badges.

Saturday, February 21: Interprekidz 2 for ages 10-12
Did you know that the Wornall House has a young docents program. Interprekidz teaches young people museum science, re-enactment skills, and how to portray a historical character. This semester, we will be focusing on portraying "Border Wars" characters and actually put on a production telling the story of the pre Civil War years. Classes will be held the third Saturday of each month starting on February 21st and ending on April 18th . Classes begin at 10am and end at Noon. Final performance will be Saturday, May 16th at 1:00. Cost for all four classes is $60. This workshop is most appropriate for kids 10-12 years old.

Summer Camp

Camp Wornall May 26 - 29. June 8 - 12. July 6 - 10. August 3 - 7.

Camp Wornall is a fun and educational camp for children ages 6 - 12. Activities include candle dipping, ink making, Underground Railroad, old time dances, music, art, and a lot of other activities designed to teach Missouri/Kansas history. This camp is all hands on and children can even dress in period clothing while learning about childhood in the 1800's. Full Days 8:30 to 4:30. Half Days 8:30 to 12:00 noon. Cost $160 for full days, $80 for half days.

Ghost Stories

Friday-Saturday, March 20 and 21: Ghost Hunting Tours
Back by popular demand, this tour takes you into the house with some real live Ghost Busters. You will have a chance to handle their equipment and learn all about how ghost hunting is done. You will also learn the haunted history of the Wornall House and maybe even see evidence of ghosts yourself! Hourly tours start at 7pm. After you are done, be sure to visit with the Irish Civil War Brigade on the lawn for some marshmallows and ghost stories around the campfire. Cost for this event is $15 per person and you MUST make a reservation. Call early, this event tends to fill up fast.

September, 2009: Ghost Vigil Tours
Heard about the Wornall House being haunted? Discover for yourself in September. Join "Ghost Vigils" paranormal investigators and enjoy a tour of what they found.

October, 2009: Haunted Wornall
Check back in October for Halloween fun and history.

Holidays

November: Thanksgiving Telebration!
Telebration! is the Museum's celebration of National Story Telling Day as The River & Prairie Story-Weavers will be sharing thrilling tales from history with a different storyteller in each room of the house.

December: Christmas Candlelight Tours
A favorite Kansas City Christmas tradition. Step back in time as costumed re-enactors in each room of the house help us discover the Wornall family on different Christmas Eves from 1858 to 1933.

December: Visit with Father Christmas
Children are welcome to discover how Kansas City kids celebrated the holidays 150 years ago through fun activities, songs and photo/visit from Father Christmas himself!
